Website design for creatives

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've had it up to my eyeballs with junk emails and scammy telemarketing phone calls from every Joe Blow and his brother about how he can get me to the top of Google, or provide me with cheap website design services from... well... wherever they come from. Seriously? I mean, first of all, I'm the last person who needs to be sold online marketing services. Erm... ahem... did you even bother to LOOK at my site? Oh wait... apparently not. Imagine paying thousands of dollars for a website... it isn't the greatest design in the world, but you HAVE to have a site, so you are happy with it -- for now. Move on a few years. You've been paying the original designer a shedload of money each month for hosting, and "some other service" (which of course you've never used)... and are finally ready to make some educated changes to your site. Lo and behold! the designer wants to charge you yet ANOTHER shedload of money to make any changes to your site... even though you've been paying him to do just that for years!
